Tico Tico for Trumpet by Zequinha Abreu is an exciting and energetic arrangement of the famous Brazilian tune Tico-Tico no Fub , arranged by John Iveson for Bb Trumpet or Cornet with Piano Accompaniment. Bursting with lively Latin rhythms and dazzling technical passages, this virtuosic showpiece is a popular choice for advanced brass players looking to impress audiences.

Originally arranged for James Watson and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, this vibrant piece has become a favourite with performers and audiences around the world. The trumpet part in this edition is identical to the original ensemble arrangement, while the specially adapted piano accompaniment retains the excitement, rhythmic drive and distinctive Latin character of the music.

Written in D-flat major, the arrangement demands nimble technique, precise articulation and excellent control. Both the soloist and pianist must capture the lively Brazilian style, allowing the music to flow freely with an emphasis on rhythmic energy, expression and musical character.

The original composition, Tico-Tico no Fub , takes its name from a small Brazilian bird and depicts it searching for food. John Iveson's imaginative arrangement transforms this familiar melody into a brilliant concert showpiece, making it particularly effective as a recital highlight or exciting encore.

The arrangement has received enthusiastic reviews, with Music Teacher magazine praising its exciting concert potential and the International Trumpet Guild Journal highlighting its virtuosic writing, rhythmic vitality and effectiveness in performance.
