Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet by Derek Bourgeois is a collection of nine unaccompanied pieces for Clarinet, designed to explore a wide range of technical and musical challenges. Originally conceived as audition material for the National Youth Orchestra, the collection is suitable for advanced players, with a difficulty level ranging from slightly difficult to diploma standard.

The collection comprises five longer pieces and four shorter pieces, each addressing different aspects of instrumental technique and musical interpretation within a compact structure. The contrasting tempos, rhythms and musical characters provide opportunities to develop articulation, phrasing, technical control and expressive performance.

Each piece is accompanied by technical advice from Colin Bradbury, former Principal Clarinet of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. His guidance provides valuable insights into the technical and musical demands of the repertoire, helping players approach each piece with greater confidence and understanding.
