Dansons La Morvandelle

Dansons La Morvandelle is a collection of traditional tunes from the Morvan region of Burgundy, France, compiled by Mike Gilpin. Originally published in 1997, this revised second edition has been extensively updated, with the number of tunes almost doubled and errors found in the original edition corrected.

The Morvan, a parc r gional in southern Burgundy, is an area of gently wooded hills, pastureland and lakes with a strong regional identity and a rich folk heritage. Traditional music forms an important part of that heritage, with a substantial repertoire enjoyed and preserved by musicians throughout the region.

Mike Gilpin collected the tunes in this book over many years. Although this expanded edition contains almost twice as much material as the original, it still represents only a fraction of the extensive repertoire of the Morvandiaux.

Gilpin developed a passion for the hurdy gurdy and traditional French music during the early 1970s. His interest in traditional instruments eventually led him to leave his previous career in 1993 and study instrument making at London Guildhall University.
