101 North-West Dance Tunes

101 North-West Dance Tunes is a collection of 101 traditional dance tunes selected by Dave Mallinson, an experienced D/G melodeon player who has studied the traditional music of Britain and Ireland for more than five decades.

The collection brings together tunes that have, over the years, been particularly popular in the North-West of England. The repertoire is by no means exclusive to the region, however, with many of the tunes also widely played throughout Britain and Ireland.

The tunes, together with alternative titles where appropriate, have been selected from a wide range of traditional sources. Their settings are derived principally from manuscripts available through The Village Music Project, alongside numerous traditional music books, with the sources listed within the collection.

The arrangements have been chosen to be relatively accessible to the average player and are suitable for the wide range of instruments associated with traditional music. All of the tunes fall within the playing range of the D tin whistle, concert flute and D/G melodeon, making the book particularly practical for session and dance musicians.

For the purposes of this collection, the North-West region broadly encompasses Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, North Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, West North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
